VGF Young Producers’ Prize 2019: Fabian Halbig and Florian Kamhuber with „Limbo“ (Film still)

Winner of 2019 VGF Young Producers’ Prize: Fabian Halbig and Florian Kamhuber for Limbo

The Munich producers Fabian Halbig and Florian Kamhuber of NORDPOLARIS win this year’s VGF Young Producers’ Prize for the production of the film “Limbo”. With 60000 Euros, it is the VGF’s best endowed German award for junior film producers. The price has been awarded Friday night at the Hof symphonic orchestra “Klangmanufaktur” within the frameworks of the 53rd Hof International Film Festival.

The “Verwertungsgesellschaft für Nutzungsrechte an Filmwerken” (VGF) – the collecting society for cinematographic works usage rights – has awarded this price since 1994. German junior producers may submit their first, second or third feature film. The uncommitted price money is supposed to be consolidating the equity capital figures of production company start-ups.

„Limbo“ – a one-take film: when the young compliance manager Ana (Elise Schott) pounces a money laundering network, her paths cross with those of an aging petty crook (Martin Semmelrogge), an undercover agent (Tilmann Strauß) and a Vienna crime boss (Christian Strasser) the same evening. At an illegal bare knuckle fight, their individual fates intersect in a maelstrom of might, fear and violence. When it comes to the final fight at the arena, there’s a lot more at stake for all of them than just win or lose…

“Limbo” is a NORDPOLARIS production, coproduced with Koryphäen Film and the Bayerischer Rundfunk in association with HFF Munich, sponsored by the Film FernsehFonds Bayern. “Limbo” will be officially released in German movie theaters on Feb. 20, 2020. It will be shown at the 53rd Hof international film festival on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m. in the ‘City’ cinema.

“My heartfelt congrats to the two award winners. ‘Limbo’ is an excellent movie. It captivates not only with its outstanding cast but also with its unrivaled camera work. Junior programs are dear to VGF’s heart – that’s why I’m happy to reward such an awesome film!” Johannes Klingsporn, VGF’s CEO

Former award laureates are, among others, successful movies like “Das Leben der anderen”, “Die wilden Kerle” and “Einmal bitte alles”.
