On Wednesday, 27 May 2020 at 8:00 pm the time has come: the winning film of the German Cinema New Talent Award of the 50th Hof International Film Festival, THE IMPOSSIBLE PICTURE by Sandra Wollner, can be seen in the online cinema of the Hanoverian Lodderbast.
Vienna in the 1950s: a childhood captured on 8mm film by 13-year-old Johanna. A childhood as it happened in the past – or at least in memory. Fragments of a family history, interspersed with a special secret. A household full of women and, among them, one particular constant: grandmother Maria Steinwendner, who organizes weekly cooking clubs. But there’s no cooking ever going on.
“In a fine, almost secret way and ever so quietly, this film creeps into the hearts and minds of the audience and seduces us into a household full of women in post-war Vienna. Little by little the special theme of this film unfolds. The film takes a lot of time to tell the secret of the women of the Steinwendner family (…). So much so that the viewer can become impatient – only to be hit by an overwhelming forcefulness, a forcefulness one seldom experiences in the cinema.” Jury statement of the Hof International Film Festival for the German Cinema New Talent Award
A nice reunion and certainly not to be missed.
