or the first time in the history of the Hof International Film Festival the festival team will award its own prize. In memory of the deceased initiator and long-standing director of the Hof International Film Festival, Heinz Badewitz, who passed away in March 2016, an award for a newcomer director for a debut work will be awarded from this year on to honor and support young German film talent. The HEINZ BADEWITZ Prize will be awarded by the Hof International Film Festival team together with the Friedrich Baur Foundation and is endowed with 5,000 euros. Andreas Walter, Acting Manangement Board Director of the Hof International Film Festival:
“With the HEINZ BADEWITZ Prize we want to acknowledge the life work of Heinz Badewitz. Directors were particularly dear to him. For this reason, the prize will go to an up-and-coming director. With the award, we also want to make a statement that the festival will continue and that we intend to carry on in Heinz’s sense into a new era. We are very grateful for the spontaneous support of the Friedrich Baur Foundation which helps us to make this award possible.”
The award itself is an object from the design academy in Selb which won a competition for a commissioned monument to the Hof International Film Festival on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. The campaign was initiated by the Hof Civic Trust. Before his passing, Heinz Badewitz had the opportunity to survey the submissions of the young designers. The sculpture itself has not yet been completed, but a miniature version of it will now represent the HEINZ BADEWITZ Prize.
