German Cinema New Talent Award
Best Film (first, second or third feature film)
Since 1994, the Collecting society for exploitation rights in cinematographic works (VGF) has been annually presenting the VGF Young Producers’ Prize to the best film of an up-and-coming producer. An independent panel judges the submitted German feature films according to quality and recognizable audience relevance. The award comes with an endowment with 60,000 euros and is the highest paying prize for up-and-coming producers in Germany. The award money is not appropriated and is intended to strengthen the equity capital of young production companies.
The VGF Young Producers’ Prize was awarded during the Hof International Film Festival from 2018 to 2020.
The founders – HypoVereinsbank, Bavaria Film and Bavarian Broadcasting – introduced an award for young talent at the Hof International Film Festival, in recognition of outstanding artistic achievement in a German film screening in the program of the Hof International Film Festival. The award was replaced in the year 2012 with the German Cinema New Talent Award.
This prize was awarded since 1984 to recognize a talented young director and his or her film. The prize was endowed with film material with the intention of supporting the next production of the prize-winning director. The EASTMAN Promotion Award was presented in 2012 for the final time. The Hof International Film Festival thanks Kodak GmbH for its 29-year commitment to young German cinema.
